Buy Real Estate on the Moon: Own your Lunar Property
April 6th, 2005We all love the moon radiating the cool lunar glow at night. Did you know that you can buy real estate on the moon.
I happened to visit the Lunar Embassy which claims to be the leaders in extraterrestrial real estate and the only company in the world to be recognized to possess a legal basis for selling and registering extraterrestrial properties.
As per information on their site…
A declaration of ownership was filed with the United Nations as well as the US and Russian governments 25 years ago by Mr. Dennis M. Hope of the Lunar Embassy, to ensure that a legal basis for the ownership of the properties sold here can be claimed. In 1996, they opened the first web site, the MoonShop, which was the first Internet website ever, to be selling properties on any extraterrestrial body. There are over 1,125,000 lunar land owners from 176 countries around the world, including many famous celebrities. To date more than 300 million acres have been issued to people from all walks of life.
To buy a property / real estate on the Moon, you can go to their MoonShop. The price for a one acre parcel is: Only $19.99 + $1.51 (Lunar Tax) + Shipping and handling of $10.00.
Since the cost is so low, it seems owners of lunar property dont mind if they might never visit their prized plot because moon travel will be very expensive. Till then you can drool from earth with a telescope and look at your property from earth.
Isnt it amazing owning a piece of the moon!

Your figures are a little off for the price of Lunar Embassy Real Estate. I just purchased a gift several weeks ago for a friends wedding and I found their prices a bit higher. True, you can get a 1 acre lot for $19.99 plus the $1.51 Lunar tax, but standard shipping is $12.50; which brings the total to $34.00 even. This is for a standard “Deed” which is not personalized.
In order to have my friends name printed on it, I would have to pay an extra $2.50, bringing the grand total up to $36.50, and I would not get to choose the location; I gues they do this automatically.
So I searched around and found that there are other companies selling Property on the Moon. The one I liked the best, and ended up buying from, was called Lunar Properties (www.lunarproperties.com). They were the only ones selling 1 hectare lots (2.47 Acres) instead of 1 Acre Lots, all documentation was personalized, I could choose the location from a list of 14 offered on their site (I choose Bay of Love for the wedding gift), and shipping was free! The price was a flat $29.99, period, nothing added on at the end. I received the documents in about 4 days and my friend and his new bride loved it. I didn’t have to worry about anybody showing up with the same gift.
The Lunar Properties site was also full of loads of great information about the Moon, complete with photos and animated files.
I’m sure there has been some changes to this industry since this article was written in 2005, and just wanted to give you my 2 cents.
No one is allowed to own the Moon or any other extraterrestrial real estate. All these sites online are scams, people! Beware!
