World’s Fastest Supercomputers : TOP500 List Released

The 25th TOP500 List was introduced during the International Supercomputer Conference (ISC2005) in Heidelberg, Germany.

The TOP500 project tracks and detects trends in high-performance computing. Twice a year, a list of the sites operating the 500 most powerful computer systems is assembled and released. The best performance on the Linpack benchmark is used as performance measure for ranking the computer systems.

The new and previous #1 is DOE’s IBM BlueGene/L system now installed at DOE’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Read some highlights from the Top 10 Supercomputer trends. [Found via Slashdot]
