Flock Open Source Social Browser : Get Invites

September 15th, 2005
ADVERTISEMENTS

The Flock has landed! What is the buzz about?

Flock claims to introduce the world’s most innovative social browsing experience and they call it the two-way web. They are sending out invites to try it out, and you can leave you email address to get a lucky flock invite.

Quoting snippets from a Wired News post which says

“Decrem and a small cadre of programmers in Palo Alto, California, have spent this summer quietly readying Flock, an open-source browser, for an early October beta launch. Several members of the team, including Decrem, hail from the Mozilla Foundation, which produced the Firefox browser upon which Flock is built.”

“Flock advertises itself as a “social browser,” meaning that the application plays nicely with popular web services like Flickr, Technorati and del.icio.us. Flock also features widely compliant WYSIWYG, drag-and-drop blogging tools. The browser even promises to detect and authenticate all those user accounts automatically. It’s a clear attempt to be the browser of choice for the Web 2.0 user.”

So you can leave you email, get lucky to get a flock invite, try the web browser out, check out the buzz and maybe tell us about it.

All I’ll say about it is that it’s going to change the way users interact with one another on the net. It’s great to see the blogosphere grow at such an exponential rate. Imagine the growth once this browser is released to the general public. A browser which revolves around the social aspect of the net. One which provides users the ability to blog anything and everything they see without having to know an ounce of code or the rules for citing other bloggers. It’s like having your own personal little blogging butler. All you have to know how to do is read, click, and type.
