On August 29th, 2005 Hurricane Katrina strengthened into one of the fiercest storms the U.S. has ever seen. The front page of the site says

“Evacuees wishing to inform loved ones of their location can register their name by clicking on “Report My Status” from the navigation on this site. Concerned family members can view the list of those loved ones already entered by clicking on “Find Loved One” from the navigation on this site. A toll-free hotline 1 877-LOVED-1S (1 (877) 568-3317) has been established for those who do not have internet access or would like to check this list without a computer.”

They claim the site will be updated continuously. Google Kartina Search and People search which searches for Hurricane Katrina-related web pages and indexes a large number of public Katrina databases also includes KatrinaSafe.com. They also have a list of locator resources that help to locate evacuees and survivors.
