Lifehacker Comments By Invitation to Avoid Spam
September 24th, 2005 | Filed under Tips, Tools.I have often wondered that Lifehacker provides such great content, but it would be nice to comment on posts. Lifehacker opened to reader comments, but comments are invite-only!
A post introducing the new Comments by invitation concept says
“Commenter invitations are being sent out to frequent tipsters, productivity bloggers and friends of Lifehacker today. As much as we hate excluding a large part of Lifehacker readership from commenting, our invitation system helps us ensure that comment threads will have high quality information from people we trust. Invitees will receive more invites, Gmail-style, so our circle of trusted commenters will grow. For more on how to be a good commenter on Lifehacker and elsewhere, see Lifehacker’s guide to weblog comments.”
So if you are regular reader of Lifehacker, see how you can become a commenter.
How can I become a commenter?
A) Find a friend with an invitation to share. Many of the people who we’ve invited to comment have also received invitations to share with friends. We’ll continue to seed selected inboxes with invitations to share so the supply doesn’t die out.B) Tip us. We’ve invited some of our most frequent tipsters to comment, as a thanks for all the help they’ve given us. If you’re looking to comment, raise your chances by sending useful tips to us at tips@lifehacker.com
C) Blog. If you’re a blogger, you’ve got a stake in what you’re saying. Many Lifehacker comments invitations have gone out to fellow bloggers whose work we admire.
This is good concept for avoiding comment spam and attaches a premium value to comment invites. Blogger recently introduced captcha to avoid spamming of comments by automated tools. I am awaiting a Lifehacker comment invite… do you have an invite?
Update: I received a comment invite from Lifehacker editor Gina Trapani shortly after this post. It consists of an invitation link that can be used only once. It allows you to post comments on several Gawker Media blogs. If you are a popular blogger and recieve many invites, you may forward the email to another reliable blogger. Thanks for the invite Gina.
