Blogger Comments Moderation to Control Spam
November 5th, 2005 | Filed under Blogging, Miscellaneous.Blogger has now introduced the ability to moderate comments on your blog. This is a wonderful way to control comment spam on your blog and a much desired feature.
Now you can approve or reject posted comments before it goes live on your blog. And catch any comment spam before it reaches your page. You can choose to moderate your comments via either email or from blogger.com. The feature needs to be enabled from the Settings | Comment tab. Comments that have already been published or rejected are removed from the moderation list. Rejected comments are deleted and cannot be recovered. Only blog administrators will be able to moderate comments.
Blogger has earlier introduced Comment Captchas to combat comments spam in Blogger. This has blocked spam comments to a considerable degree. Then they added attribute (rel=”nofollow”) on hyperlinks, those links won’t get any credit when we rank websites in our search results to make sure that spammers get no benefit from abusing public areas like blog comments, trackbacks, and referrer lists. If your blog is incorrectly classified as a spammy blog and you require to solve a word verification captcha (pending which your posts might be saved as drafts).

Comment moderation really isn’t a spam fighting tool it’s more suited for offensive comments.
