Google.org : The Philanthropic Google
December 27th, 2005 | Filed under Google. We all use Google.com search engine daily to search information on the web. Did you know Google has another face too called Google.org - Philanthropic arm of Google.
What does Google.org do?
“Google.org includes the work of the Google Foundation, some of Google’s own projects using Google talent, technology and other resources, as well as partnerships and contributions to for-profit and non-profit entities.”
And their site highlights some of their “initial commitments” like Acumen Fund (a non-profit venture fund that invests in market-based solutions to global poverty), TechnoServe (helps budding entrepreneurs turn good business ideas into thriving enterprises), Water Research (to support research in western Kenya to identify ways to better water quality) and PlanetRead (seeking to improve literacy in India using same-language subtitling). Now that is some great work by the Google Foundation.
Google Grants has also awarded Google AdWords advertising to hundreds of non-profit groups whose missions range from animal welfare to literacy, from supporting homeless children to promoting HIV education. Also see Yahoo supporting Cyber Giving Week 2005!

I read on the Internet that Google started a non profit organization that was somehow unique and different than the usual non profit groups. Could you please direct me to the site that explains how your non profit is different than the rest. It was something about how you started your non profit entirely differently than anyone else. Thank you. Mimi Cerruti
