Firefox Nightly Builds Smoketest Day : Litmus Tool Check

The Mozilla QA team are once again holding a community test day on January 6, 2006 for smoketesting nightly Firefox 1.5.0.1 builds.

Mozilla Quality Blog which is the “Quality Assurance and Testing Blog for Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird” has this announcement -

“We will be using the Litmus tool for this testing event. There is an FAQ posted to our QA community wiki that will have specific instructions on how this testing day will run. The event will be similar to the last Firefox and Thunderbird testing days – members of the QA team will be in an IRC channel to answer questions if you need help at some point along the way. This is a low-key event as we’ll be performing a basic set of manual tests on Firefox.”

Firstly I thought that this community testing might be lot of technical and developer stuff, but a quick visit there shows you that any firefox newbie can be part of this testing.

Just browse to Litmus Tools, Click on run tests, select Product “Firefox”, your platform and OS, Select 1.5 branch, Select the locale, build ID is prefilled, Enter your email address and Submit. Smoketests can be run for Install and Startup, Functionality and Uninstall. There are also many more Basic Functional Tests (BFTs). The detailed FAQ can help you along the way.

They have a nice interface to perform a lot of tests and submit all results. I checked several of them out and they are simple to perform too and report results. You might want to become a firefox tester yourself. I found several new features in firefox too.
