National Skills Registry : IT Professionals Database in India
February 20th, 2006NASSCOM, which is a forum of IT and ITeS companies, has taken initiative to create, operate and maintain the National Skills Registry (NSR) – a national database that will contain third party verified personal, qualification and career information of IT professionals (ITP) in India.
NASSCOM is India’s National Association of Software and Service Companies, the premier trade body of the IT software and services industry in India. NSR is a database of background check information of personal, academic and employment details of individuals employed / to be employed in the IT and ITeS industry.
Excerpt from a description of National Skills Registry
“The Basic objective of NSR is to facilitate sharing of back-ground check information about ITPs. However access to ITP information is controlled by ITP itself. It can decide on who can view its details available on NSR. All NASSCOM member companies will require the ITPs to submit their verified details before completing employment procedure. ITP can permit such employer to view its details by expressly authorising such employer using the front end given by NSR. Only such entities specifically authorised by ITP can view the data. Such employers may choose not to conduct back-ground check again as ITP is already verified. However, current employer can view the details at any time.”

Great work doing. Thanks
Well the idea of NSR is good, however no one appears to be concerned about the security risks involved to the personal details of the individuals registering on NSR. Providing fingerprints just to get a job is ridiculous. I understand the NSR website boasts about the security features set to save guard the data. However we all must analyze the impacts of the data theft from NSR. If my fingerprints are stolen – they are lost for ever. Because you cannot change your biometrics anyone can use your identity with your fingerprints.
Thanks for sharing.
