Easily Install Firefox Extensions from Developer Websites
March 1st, 2006 | Filed under Firefox, Miscellaneous.Whe you download and install extension from sites such as Mozilla Update, it is already in the list of deafult allowed websites that install extensions and pose no problem.
When you try installing from developer homepages, you usually get the popup yellow bar on top, you need to edit options, add the website to the list of allowed websites, then again click to download the .xpi file and install from the pop up.
Dperdue.com suggests an excellent tip that instead of all these steps - “Drag the link to install the extension into the URL field of the browser. It seems that if you directly request the extension address in Firefox, instead of just clicking a link, that it will indeed install the extension.” Just give it a try. Although it bypasses some security issue in Firefox it seems, it saved me a lot of time.

I think you can also drag the link onto the Extensions window (if it’s open) and it will also bypass it… without leaving the page.
