Wikipedia Featured Pictures

Featured Pictures in Wikipedia highlights images and diagrams that they find “beautiful, shocking, impressive and informational”.

Quickly browse through all the pictures at a glance using the Featured pictures thumbs, or if you rather not click on these image and have a fast broadband internet connection, then try the Wikipedia Featured pictures and makes the pictures visible without needing to click on every single link. You can also see the Wikipedia Pic of the Day.

You can also get your favourite picture listed by adding it to the New nominations section.

“For listing, if an image is listed here for fourteen days with four or more supporting votes (including the nominator if it was not a self-nomination), and the consensus is in its favor, it can be added to the Wikipedia:Featured pictures list. If necessary, decisions about close votes will be made on a case-by-case basis.”

But remember, images listed here should be either in the public domain or covered by a free license.

    How can I order pictures for use in a book I am writing? For example: San Francisco in about 1857 and the Mandan Indian site visited by Lewis and Clark.
