Is your computer ready for an upgrade to for the new Windows Vista? Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor beta is a downloadable web application that helps Windows XP users to identify which version of Windows Vista meets their needs, while checking if their PCs are ready for an upgrade to Windows Vista and which features will be available on their PC.

To install and run the core functionality of Windows Vista, you need an 800 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and a 20 GB hard drive with 15 GB of free space. So if you purchased a PC in the last two years, chances are good that you can run Windows Vista today.

Earlier they had announced that the Windows Vista product lineup consists of six versions, two for businesses, three for consumers, and one for emerging markets: Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Vista Starter.

They advise you plug in any USB or other attachable peripheral devices (such as printers, external hard drives, or scanners) that are regularly used with the PC, so that it can check their compatibility for Windows Vista too.
