WordPress MU : Hosted Multiple Users Version

By Posted 2006 Updated   BloggingWordPress

How do you create a community of multiple users with WordPress blogs? WordPressMU, or WordPress, is the hosted version of WordPress, also known as the multi-user version of the the WordPress blogging application.

It is ideal for people wanting to offer a hosted version of WordPress, but “due to its complexity, installation and maintenance is not supported in the same manner as WordPress”. Also, it offers limited WordPress functions to users.

WordPressMu is not designed for multiple blogs but multiple users, creating a community of WordPress users using WordPress for their blogs. Only one blog per user is allowed, but you can have unlimited users, and you can have multiple users on a single blog. WordPress.com is a good example of this service. It provides an opportunity to provide free hosting, options for adding plugins, themes and administration features. Users can have different permissions on different blogs. With WordPressMU, you can offer users free blogs with no installation or setup and a chance to test drive WordPress. Download WordPress Multi-User edition.

Hi. Great to know of another person who has reviewed WordPress MU.
Please do drop by http://www.wpmuforum.com to help up new users. It is still new but I think the site will take off very soon.

This post is outdated (it probably wasn’t in May 2006 when it was posted). WordPress MU now supports an arbitrary number of users and blogs per user. This means an installation can support users with one blog, multiple blogs, or no blog at all.
