How to Use Feedburner Email Headline Animator in Gmail

June 6th, 2006
ADVERTISEMENTS

If you use a feedburner feed, they have a cool Email headline animator that you can attach in your email signature. I was trying to get it to work in my gmail account, but it would simply not work. Then I went looking for the gmail secret…

It is easy to add it to many free web email services, but is seemed impossible to do in Gmail. Why? Google GMail does not permit HTML email signatures and only plain text signatures may be used. But that is if you use web based gmail!

See how my email headline animator looks like, I am sure you would like to attach it to your email signature too -

Quick Online Tips

The workaround is that you can use the gmail free POP3 access feature. POP3 allows you to use a desktop email client like Thunderbird, Outlook, Eudora etc. to send email. You can add this email HTML signature to your email application. Now when you send email via these email clients, gmail will let you attach the Feedburner Email Signature Animator. If you use Firefox and have installed Gskin extension (http://gmailskins.mozdev.org/) than is possible to modify the javascript.js of the extension (normally in “C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\PROFILE\extensions\gmskins@mdparker\chrome\chromeFiles\content” directory) and substitute “” with the script offered by Feedburner (ex. ).
From now you can press the “” icon in the toolbar for add the html code in your email.

Not a perfect solution, just a workaround :(

Is there any solution for those not opting for the POP3 access of gmail. I prefer keeping it online.

Can we yet insert this in the signature anyways?
