Page Strength : A Google Pagerank Alternative

ADVERTISEMENTS

SEOmoz.org has launched the Page Strength Tool designed to replace the Google PageRank score in the toolbar. Just put in your url, wait for 30 seconds while it fetches your data and gives you a Page Strength.

“For link data, we pull from links to the page, links to the domain, edu, gov & mil links and links from places like Wikipedia, DMOZ, etc. This isn’t to say that these are always going to ensure rankings, but, like it or not, more often than not, more important sites do find themselves with more links from these sources than less important sites. It’s not a universal truth, but it’s enough of a trend to make it worthwhile to have them as factors.

We’re also pulling from sources like del.icio.us and Alexa, offering a peek into whether the sites are popular with techie types. Again, neither are perfect metrics, but the data is relatively accurate for the majority of sites (i.e. those not spamming or being spammed).

Finally, we pull some additional pieces to help complete the puzzle – domain name visibility as measured by the number of results for a Google search, internal link percentage (how many links point to deep pages vs. the domain), the age of the domain from the Wayback Machine and yes, even the Google PageRank itself.”

Well they seem to have taken all possible factors into account. It gives you a quick overview of your site from search engine optimization (SEO) point of view. Data about a URL in the tool is cached for 72 hours, so no need to recheck within that period. You can also add a button to your browser’s bookmarks toolbar that will fetch the Page Strength of the page you are currently viewing. Will it challenge the Google Page Rank? Maybe not.

    I got 2/10 and it seems that Quickonlinetips.com gets 3.5 :(

  2. We really rate this tool, although our page strength is ostensibly less than our Google PR, we think it probably offers a more ‘balanced’ assessment of the sites worth and of course it keeps us on our toes.
