Rackathon 2006 : Open Source Lab Fundraising Drive

August 11th, 2006 | Filed under Events.
ADVERTISEMENTS

The Open Source Lab facilitates open source communities and the development and distribution of Open Source Software (OSS) by hosting projects and developing software. Rackathon 2006 is their new fundraising campaign to continue this support.

For just a $20 donation to help sponsor their operations, they will put your name on a rack in 10pt. font for a year! For every additional $20 they will increase the font size of your name by 1pt (up to 48pt.) See the pictures of the server racks from the OSL donation Rackathon (which will be updated monthly). The online donations are handled through the Oregon State University Foundation.

What are the donations used for? We provide managed and unmanaged hosting for non-profit open source projects. This is done with external funding. The goal here is that the open source developers themselves do not need to pay for the hosting. Project hosting comes with access to managed services that we provide above and beyond just physical space for their server. Also, when a project needs help with a box that has gone down, we staff individuals to jump in and work the console for them.”
