aKademy 2006 : KDE Desktop Developers Conference
September 24th, 2006aKademy 2006 is the annual meeting of the KDE community being held from September 23rd to 30th 2006, at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. It will feature presentations by top KDE developers, joint development, bug-fixing & coding sessions, and workshops for all KDE contributors. The aKademy 2006 will help shaping the future of the free desktop by working on the next-generation desktop, KDE 4, and other desktop standards.
KDE is a powerful free software and graphical desktop environment for Linux and Unix workstations. KDE seeks to fill the need for an easy to use desktop for Unix workstations, similar to the desktop environments found under the MacOS or Microsoft Windows.
To show the results achieved at aKademy there will be a technical preview release of the KDE’s upcoming major release, KDE 4, directly after the event. As the biggest KDE community event, aKademy is a great place for meeting and bringing together all active KDE contributors, programmers, artists, documentation writers, translators, usability experts, promoters and other supporters.
KDE Desktop includes a browser (Konqueror), personal information management suite (Kontact), full office suite (KOffice), networking application and utilities, and an efficient development environment featuring the IDE KDevelop.
