Blogonomics Business Blogging Conference Cruise Cancelled

I just looked into my calendar and was reminded about Blognomics 2006. It was the widely promoted Blogonomics Business Blogging Conference to be held on a luxury cruise on Caribbean seas from October 5-9, 2006. They had launched a popular affiliate program to get more participants too. Blogs were full of those blog cruise banners. Out of curiosity I looked back to see how it was doing and was surprised to see Blogonomics is cancelled. I really dont know when it was cancelled as I do not see any date on the post.

“In the beginning we assumed that with the right balance of sponsors and registrations of attendees, that we could afford to finance and carry the remaining cabins to allow for last minute sign-ups. To our dismay, this did not happen quite as we had planned. While we are cancelling the cruise, the idea is still strong in our minds and hope that in the future we can make such an event happen.”

“It seems that the of the blogosphere was not quite ready to fully embrace a blogging conference cruise despite our accomplished list of presenters. The other issue we faced was that many of the blogging startups were not able to finance a sponsorship, and the ones that were able to had already made commitments for sponsorships in their yearly budgets.”

A look into comments by top bloggers reveals that the limiting factors were the cruise cost, blogging is easy, too many blog conferences, bosses blocking any hint of a vacation on a cruise…
