Track Web Host Uptime by Hourly Traffic Statistics

We all run popular free site statistics tracking tools like Sitemeter, statcounter etc. These tools have an option to track the hourly visits and you can easily see when your site was down or offline. Let me explain with some examples.
Check these Sitemeter hourly traffic charts. It clearly shows that our site went offline at 3AM and the web host server was restored to normal activity by around 7AM

This chart shows when my web hosting provider reported a power outage. The site traffic went to zero and promptly surged back in the next hour.

Any guesses what happened here. The site was getting Digged and my shared web hosting server crashed. And the site was down for over a few hours.
