WordPress 2.0.6 Beta 1 for WP-Testers
December 6th, 2006I recently upgraded to Wordpress 2.0.5, the latest version, and while some Wordpress bloggers were still fixing server 500 errors, a new beta version is out for Wordpress testers.
Mark Jaquith says that WordPress 2.0.6 Beta 1 just went out on the WP-Testers list.
“This is a beta version, so this is for testers only. Standard disclaimer about installing this on your main blog applies. I’m particularly interested in feedback from people who had problems with WordPress 2.0.5, specifically related to that Server 500 error that some PHP on FastCGI servers were throwing.”
Download here (zip file). Although it is always safer to upgrade to the publicly released final Wordpress version; early adopters may try out the new Wordpress version (on a test blog), test new features and report Wordpress bugs. They might just release WordPress 2.0.6 by Christmas!

I’d like to get it released at least a week before Christmas, in case there are any issues, and in order to give people time to upgrade before the majority of the Western world gets lost in Christmas-related goings-on. We’ll see how the beta goes! So far, nothing but positive feedback.
Mark has since released RC1. He seems to be on schedule for the week before Christmas release. I’ve summarized the changes here: “WordPress 2.0.6 Content Summary – Release in days, WordPress 2.1 due Jan 2007″ (http://www.thecodecave.com/article297) for anyone who might be interested.
I guess you HAVE to format links as html if you want them to work. Everyone’s blog is different…

Sorry for the double post. Please merge these comments if you are so inclined.
