Linden Lab Releases Second Life Viewer Source Code

Linden Labs, which runs the largest virtual world online called Second Life has released the Viewer source code and invites the world to help build this global space for communication, business, and entertainment. Now developers from around the world can collaborate with Linden Lab to refine and enhance the experience for all residents of Second Life.

Second Life consists of two major components: the viewer, which is the software that residents install on their computers to access Second Life, and the server infrastructure, which is the collection of software components running at Linden Lab’s datacenters. The Second Life Viewer source code is available for you to download, inspect, compile, modify, and use within the guidelines of the GNU GPL version 2 with a FLOSS exception.

Second Life is getting very popular and recently crossed one million virtual residents, some of whom are millionaires. Events like STAND UP are now being held in both the real world and Second Life too!
