Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day : Engineers Week On
Engineers Week 2007 is on from February 18 to 24. Engineers Week is “a formal coalition of more than 75 engineering, professional, and technical societies and more than 50 corporations and government agencies, dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers among young students and by promoting pre-college literacy in math and science”. As part of this initiative is the “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” on February 22, 2007.
On Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, thousands of women engineers, with support from their male counterparts, directly mentor more than one million girls and young women in K-12 with firsthand experiences in engineering.
“As part of our focus on girls, we will publicize the need for more women in engineering and will reach K-12 girls with positive messages about math and science education and engineering careers. Additionally we are striving to have engineering societies and other organizations incorporate their own focus on women engineers with a hope that these various entities can continue to collaborate in the future.”
See the Girl Day events nationwide. Order the 2007 Girl Day kit and sign the National Pledge Roster. The 2007 Global Marathon - For, By and About Women in Engineering will be held on March 22-23.
