Wo! that’s crazy, I barely remember 8 character domains, and then i got to remember the termination, was it a dot com? or dot net?

63 characters? Depends, really.

Let’s call the parts between the dots, “labels.”

“Labels must be 63 characters or less.” (RFC 1034)

However, the maximum length of the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN,) which is all the labels and dots, is 255 characters. (RFC 1035)

Sort of. It is actually more technical than this.
