Till now two parallel Firefox series (Firefox 1.5.0.X and Firefox 2+) were being developed and supported. However, they announced that Firefox 1.5.0.12 would be the last available release in the Firefox 1.5 product series and the Major Update functionality was developed to help users migrate to the latest supported Firefox release. Now the major update is rolling out…

Firefox 1.5.0.12 users are strongly encouraged to update not only for the additional features Firefox 2 offers, but also because it’s no longer supported by Mozilla and there will be no more security updates for the 1.5 branch.

Its pretty simple. You will be prompted with a dialog window, press “Get the new version”, accept the update license terms and the update download will start. Alternatively if the user selects “Later”, they will be prompted again in approximately 24 hours. If a user selects “Never”, they are opting to skip this offer to upgrade and will not be prompted again for this particular release (2.0.0.4).

Mozilla Firefox is rollling the major update starting Thursday, June 28, afternoon PDT.
