After Google maually downgraded pagerank to penalize top sites for paid text links, some Izea (formerly PayPerPost) bloggers were also downgraded to PR zero for writing sponsored posts. Now Izea has a new ranking system called RealRank (RR) to enable advertisers to find publishers as Pagerank is no longer a reliable measure for them.
Izea RealRank (RR)
Izea (PayPerPost) explains that Izea RealRank engine runs at 2am each morning and aggregates information from the Tracker system to find the RealRank for each blog. The bloggers install the Izea Toolkit “ITK” (formerly PPP Tools) that sends data for each visitor to the Tracker systems, which then record all traffic data. Then they calculate a score for each blog and sort the resulting scores to assign each blog a rank form 1 to n.
Now advertisers are asked to select a rank from 1 through 9. If an advertiser chooses a Realrank 9 blog, they are excluding 90% of the marketplace and only choosing the top 10% blogs based on Realrank. This is useful since many popular blogs now have a pagerank of zero and buying sponsored posts based on Google PR is difficult now. So Realrank will help give an idea about blog popularity.
What factors the Realrank algorithm considers –
70% weighted towards visitors per day
20% weighted towards amount of ACTIVE inbound links per day
10% weighted towards pageviews per day
Wired has an article about how PayPerPost founder and Izea CEO Ted Murphy is unfazed by Google’s changes to the PageRank of many of his top bloggers.
Note that Google is actively penalizing sites for selling text links and sponsored articles. Read how our site dropped from PR6 to PR3, then we filled a reconsideration request and finally the pagerank was restored to PR6 and Google penalty removed.
