Earth Hour 2009: Switch Off Lights, Vote for Earth
March 27th, 2009Earth Hour 2009 is here and billions of people worldwide will “Vote for Earth” to stop global warming by simply switching off their lights for one hour on Saturday, March 28, 8:30-9:30pm and join the world for Earth Hour.
Vote Earth is a global call to action to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 over 50 million people switched off their lights and this year the goal is of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote.
WWF is urging people across the world to switch off their lights on Saturday, March 28, 8:30-9:30pm, and help vote against global warming. This will help them reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
