You can now download WordPress 2.8 ‘Baker’, the latest version of the popular blogging tool that also powers this blog. Fixing over 790 bugs, the release is named in honor of noted trumpeter and vocalist Chet Baker.

So what is new in WordPress 2.8?

There are 180 new features, changes, and improvements in WordPress 2.8. However, the first thing you experience is that it is much faster to use, basically because they changed the way WordPress does style and scripting. Now you can browse the entire theme directory and install a theme with one click fro your WordPress dashboard, without starting your FTP client.

The new CodePress editor gives syntax highlighting to the previously-plain editor, making code tweaking easy and fast, with lesser errors, and supported with a contextual documentation for the functions in the file you�re editing.

The new redesigned widgets interface allows you to edit widgets on the fly, have multiple copies of the same widget, drag and drop widgets between sidebars, and save inactive widgets so you don�t lose all their settings.

New Screen Options on every page lets you display four columns of widgets instead of the two and you can also change how many items show per page.
