I would say that the combination of a strong opinion on a topic (having a say) with good content + decent visual appeal will work in most cases

A friendly tone is very essential . And not too many ads . If it looks like the blog is more into giving the reader than taking from them , its sure you are going to get bookmarked . Quality is essential though . Nothing matters more than quality content and the posts worthiness
