Google is bringing in Google Certified Ad Networks, a new feature which will allow non-Adwords advertisers to compete with Adwords for your Adsense unit, which means the higher paying ad will be displayed, and this means more revenue for Adsense publishers.

All these participating ad networks will be certified for adherence to Google standards for user privacy, ad quality, and speed. Publishers will have an option to opt out of receiving ads from specific networks, or all networks completely.

Either way, just like enabling image ads (which also enables flash ads, video ads), third party ads, and placement targeting increases ad space competition, displaying the highest paying ads, and increasing Adsense earnings – these Google certified ad networks will be a promising additon for Adsense publishers.

Dont go looking for the feature just now – it will be rolled out first to publishers in North America and Europe followed by rest of the world.

Multiple RSS Feed Adsense Units, Link Ads in Google Reader

Have you seen multiple Google Adsense ad units and link units on any RSS feed in Google Reader? Normally Adsense allows only one ad unit in feeds, the ad size of which they automatically decide. But then Techcrunch with 2 million RSS readers is an ideal site for testing new Adsense variations with 2 ad units and ad links too!

Here is a screenshot of the Techcrunch feed in Google Reader.

Obviously this is another Google adsense feed� advertising test in going on. See how strategically Ad link units have been placed at the bottom of articles to serve as a navigation menu and two 300×250 ad units are placed side by side.

Now here is what is stranger – I tried loading the Techcrunch feed in IE, but that displayed only one ad unit. I loaded the feed in Bloglines, and still one ad unit per article. Obviously like all of us, Techcrunch can add only one adsense ad to feeds. So is this a Google reader test that is adding these additional ads? Have you seen any other feeds with multiple ads in Google reader?

This is another addition to several strange Adsense ads we spotted before� like multiple ad fonts,� 2×2 ads, favicons, no titles, titles in italics and no �Ads by Google� and interactive keywords.

Google Blocks Adsense Ads on WordPress Preview Pages

While writing WordPress blog articles, I was always concerned at the extra Google Adsense Impressions generated by WordPress preview pages. Now Google Adsense seems to have fixed that and I see no Google Adsense ads on any preview pages.

Since preview urls look like this -
http://www.domainame.com/blog/?p=12345&preview=true

I guess it was not too difficult to block ads on preview pages.

Why is it good that they blocked Adsense ads on WordPress Preview pages – No false impressions inflating cost for CPM advertisers. No accidental clicks on your own Adsense ads. Google Adsense bot visits your final published page only for better targeting. No falsely raised ad page impressions, modifying your Adsense ad statistics reports.

Google Adwords now allows advertisers to create Expandable ads to display on sites with Google Adsense. Expanding the rich media ads to the next level, it is bound to meet with mixed reactions from Adsense publishers.

Expandable ads are basically rich media ads that will expand beyond the original ad size after a user-initiated action.

Here are some facts about Expandable Adsense Ads you need to know

Expandable ads can be priced on a cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-impression (CPM) basis.
In CPC ads, no earnings when user clicks to expand the ad.
In CPC expandable ads, you earn only when a user visits the advertiser’s landing page
Mouseovers or rollovers won’t trigger the ad.
Ads expand only after user clicks and interacts with the ad.
Ads won’t expand more than double its width or height.
Ads appear as a layer over the page content
Your content will not be modified or shifted in any way.
The user may close the expanded panel at any time.
Publishers can use Ad Review Center to block placement-targeted expandable ads on your site.
Expandable ads will be served as third-party ads, created by Google-certified rich media vendors for the top display advertisers in the network

If you have enabled image ads in your Adsense code, your site is eligible to display such ads. However, expandable ads are currently only available only to specific advertisers located in the U.S.

New Adsense Ads Click to Display Google Search Results

I am spotting new Google Adsense units on our site and few other blogs. A bordered 300×250 px ad unit which has multiple links and a Google search box with no signs of Ads by Google!

The ad has 8 links in total, which will generate better income if each link is paying on a pay-per-click basis.� These links are labeled with a title of “Popular Hobbies in India”. So it is definitely geo-targeted to my country and Popular Hobbies is a good general term to get everyone interested.

Note that all links start with “How to” article, a surefire headline idea that works and is often advocated by copywriters, as it signifies solid and useful information, which encourages the reader to click the link to read more about the topic.

Below it is a big Google Search box, which encourages users to search more if they do not like the suggested links. The Google logo is also branded “Google India”, further proof of geo-targeting to the visitors interests. The ad has a border to avoid any confusion with the site content and club all the ad content together.

So where do all these results click to? To a series of Google search results for the terms which provides useful information, and is loaded with more Adsense ads! Is this an ad for Google Search?

Maybe they are testing the new ad unit which resembles Google gadget ads or interactive widget ads which were noticed earlier. Google likes to keep testing new ad units like ads with favicons, no titles, titles in italics and no �Ads by Google� and interactive keywords, 2×2 units, multiple fonts etc. Do you like this ad unit idea?

How to Create Fake Google Adsense Earnings Screenshots

Beware of huge fake Google Adsense income screenshots being posted in forums by bloggers. You will be surprised how easy it is to create a fake Adsense earnings screenshot without any photoshopping skills and mislead unsuspecting readers.

I had earlier shown you a fake screenshot from our Adsense account boasting our million dollar Adense earnings. Had it been a few hundred dollars, maybe you might have believed it.

This an example of how easy it is� to edit any web page live in your� web browser, and then easily capture a screenshot using Print Screen, or any other screen capturing software. We captured that screenshot using the free Snagit, courtesy a limited time promotion.

Now there is an even easier way using a free online tool called Google Adsense Generator which can roll out a real-looking, but fake Google Adsense earnings screenshot, with all identifying details blacked out,� based on the income you specify. It is basically another sign generator, which asks for today’s and yesterday’s income and fills in the same image with the variables you specify.

I spotted several bloggers showing fake Adsense earning screenshots recently and it seems this tool had made this trend even simpler. Obviously if you read some more image manipulation and Photoshop tutorials, you can edit any screenshot and get whatever image output you want.

Summary – This article highlights the fact that it is very easy to create a fake Google Adsense earnings screenshot, so don’t be misled by false claims and unbelievable earnings screenshots. Seeing is believing, but not on the internet!

Change Google Adsense Font Family to Increase CTR

Now webmasters can change the Google Adsense font family to further blend the ads with their website design and increase CTR to make more money online.

We previously showed some Adsense font testing screenshots, and it was clear Google Adsense was testing different font families to blend ads better with the site design, prompting more clicks and earning more money for Adsense publishers. Adjusting your site fonts to match Google Adsense font types and size is an old strategy to increase CTR, and now they made chosing the font easier.

Now webmasters can choose from 3 different fonts - Arial, Times Roman and Verdana, or continue with the “Standard Adsense font family” setting. You can� test the live preview of these ads from the Adsense admin panel itself. You can change the setting for individual ad units or do global changes to all your ad units from Account > Ad Display Preference > Edit > Choose preferred font > Save changes.

Although they had tested several font families in earlier tests, its good they limited the font types to a popular few, you might not like ad units with the font below

So how can you change the font size? Well that is a privilege of Premium Adsense accounts which can change a font size as well as ad unit size at will. Till then you can change your site font size to match the ad font size.
