Technorati often releases some high level informative reports on tracking the blogosphere released as the “State of the Blogosphere”.
How do you know how many blogs have recently linked to a post on your blog? Try Technorati (if you havent already).
Part 1 of the “State of the Blogosphere” report covers the overall growth of the blogosphere in terms of new blogs created. Below is a quoted the summary
Technorati was tracking over 14.2 Million weblogs, and over 1.3 billion links in July 2005
The blogosphere continues to double about every 5.5 months
A new blog is created about every second, there are over 80,000 created daily
About 55% of all blogs are active, and that has remained a consistent statistic for at least a year
About 13% of all blogs are updated at least weekly
And part 2 is also out which discusses the number of posts made each day. Again quoting a snippet of the summary..
Technorati is tracking about 900,000 blog posts created every day
That’s about 10.4 blog posts per second, on average
Median time from posting to inclusion in the Technorati index is under 5 minutes
And I believe a new “State of the Blogosphere” report is being posted each day. So keep track.
With 55% active blogs and 80000 new blogs created everyday, does that not make you a very small part of the blogosphere? And if you are still managing to keep your blog posted well, have a dedicated readership and increasing traffic, you should congratulate yourself.
