Is your blog “Bookmark” worthy? Let\u2019s face it. <\/strong>All Bloggers feel\u00a0that their blogs are pretty bodacious! It\u2019s the same sense of pride of ownership some feel with a car or a kid. :-) We tinker, toil and tweak, and with a sense of satisfaction, release it to the world. It\u2019s a\u00a0reflection of who we are.<\/p>\n

But let\u2019s not kid ourselves. <\/strong> Though many\u00a0bloggers\u00a0claim that their online journals are \u201cbirthed\u201d for recreational reasons\u00a0and personal purging,\u00a0we\u00a0all\u00a0want\u00a0readers\u00a0to dig us.\u00a0Why else would we go \u201cpublic\u201d? And\u00a0if we can\u00a0perhaps\u00a0cultivate a \u201cfollowing\u201d and\u00a0make money with our\u00a0\u201cbabies\u201d\u00a0in the process,\u00a0that\u2019s all the better.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the problem.<\/strong> Unlike other forms of writing there are no universal,\u00a0consistent\u00a0rules that serve as a blue print on blogging.\u00a0It isn\u2019t a perfect science.\u00a0So we learn as we go.\u00a0 Still,\u00a0with so many blogs\u00a0saturating the blogosphere and\u00a0competing for online attention, it\u2019s important to make a memorable impression\u00a0and find a system that works\u00a0for our goals and styles of expression.<\/p>\n

To shorten your learning curve, and improve your online image, here are a few lessons I\u2019ve picked up along the way. These tips I\u2019ll share today will help you objectively assess whether or not your site has the potential for success and whether it\u2019s \u201cbook mark\u201d worthy.<\/p>\n

HERE ARE FIVE CRITERIA TO CONSIDER<\/p>\n

1. Conversational tone and personality<\/h2>\n

Blogs, much like books,\u00a0should connect\u00a0with the reader and expand his horizons. Do\u00a0those who provide feedback through comments\u00a0reference your sense of humor? Say that they\u2019ve learned something helpful?\u00a0Come back and visit\u00a0time and time\u00a0again?\u00a0These are clues that you\u2019re on to something.<\/p>\n

2. User friendly design<\/h2>\n

Is your blog easy to navigate and\u00a0simple to\u00a0leave comments\u00a0on? Do you have labels, tags, and categories that classify your content?\u00a0Can visitors drop by and quickly post a comment without technical difficulties, having to register first, or pledge their first born?<\/p>\n

3. Guest Bloggers<\/h2>\n

Are your readers periodically presented with different styles of writing and perspectives through other\u2019s\u00a0words\u00a0and works?\u00a0Remember that variety is the spice of life.<\/p>\n

4. Is your Blog devoted to a particular niche area that\u2019s clearly identifiable?<\/h2>\n

Though opinions may vary on this, most readers want to\u00a0have consistent content that addresses their needs in a particular area. Unless your Blog is strictly for personal reasons, it should have a prevailing theme and a specific target audience.<\/p>\n

5. Visual appeal<\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Are the colors, photos and font styles attractive and easy to read even for those who may not have 20\/20 vision?\u00a0Are your posts free of typos and grammatical areas?<\/p>\n

If you answered \u201cyes\u201d to 4 or more of these questions, your Blog is indeed \u201cbook mark\u201d worthy. Congratulations!<\/p>\n
