Blogging at such a young age has already got him <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/manchester\/content\/articles\/2006\/12\/14\/child_blogger_feature.shtml\" rel=\"noopener\">featured on BBC<\/a> and now influenced by WordPress like I was, David is looking to buy a server and get his own domain name (bought Techzi.net), and wants to run WordPress.<\/p>\n<p>Since David 12, and his co-bloggers Caitlin 12, and Timmy 11 cannot raise enough money, he is <strong>asking for donations<\/strong> and has set up the Techzi Fundraiser to do this. He says that a special page on the new site will list and link the donators (in spite of how much you donate) as long as the site is run. With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/2007\/01\/blogger-blogspot-blogs-can-switch-to-custom-domain-names\/\">Blogger allowing custom domain names<\/a>, he can easily switch to Techzi.net from Blogspot and keep all the Google juice. But if he needs to get WordPress, he has to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/2006\/03\/import-blogger-posts-comments-to-wordpress\/\">import from Blogger<\/a> which is easy too. (worked out fine for us at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/2006\/09\/6-months-on-wordpress-was-shifting-from-blogger-worth-it\/\">6 months review<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Repliqa has interviewed David Wilkinson and reveals that he blogs for Profy.com as a Web 2.0 correspondent, writes for several other blogs, guest blogs for b5media and TheBlogJoint.com and has an internship at Gadgetell.com. Mark Seremet at Repliqa is helping David raise $5K to buy a server, update his blog, and replace Blogger with WordPress will <strong>match his donation for every dollar<\/strong> you donate. Even Problogger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.problogger.net\/archives\/2007\/01\/04\/introducing-12-year-old-problogger-david-wilkinson\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Rowse has praise<\/a> for the little guy.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not wish to buy your own dedicated server (you can always upgrade later), then it&#8217;s not too expensive to start a blog with WordPress. Get Dreamhost Webhosting for $7.95 a month (or chose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/2006\/09\/nearlyfreespeech-webhosting-pay-for-actual-usage\/\">pay as you use<\/a> hosting or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/2006\/03\/lifetime-domain-web-hosting-deals-value-for-money\/\">lifetime webhostin<\/a>g for cheaper deals), domain name at Godaddy for $8.95, and even lower with promo codes. And of course, WordPress is free!<\/p>\n<p>As I write this he has already collected over $1400 with 17 contributors. There is the cool Techzi fundraiser widget which you can embed in your blog.
