Wikipedia has a strong challenger rising to test their business model&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>Google Knol: A unit of knowledge<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31076\" alt=\"Google Knol\" src=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/knol.png\" width=\"315\" height=\"109\" border=\"1\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/knol.png 315w, https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/knol-150x51.png 150w, https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/knol-300x103.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 315px) 100vw, 315px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Knol stands for a unit of knowledge. Google <a href=\"https:\/\/googleblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/12\/encouraging-people-to-contribute.html\" rel=\"noopener\">introduces Knol<\/a> and says the tool is still in development and in the first phase of testing, therefore entry is by invitation only.\u00a0The goal is for knols to cover all topics and\u00a0all editorial control will rest with the authors.<\/p>\n<p>Knol will have a strong social interaction &#8211; people can submit comments, ask questions, perform edits, add additional content, rate a knol and write a review of it.\u00a0Knol will allow the author to include advertisements and provide a revenue share from the proceeds of those ads. Now that should motivate authors to write more knols.<\/p>\n<p>Knol will mainly compete with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Main_Page\" rel=\"noopener\">Wikipedia<\/a>, the multilingual online free encyclopedia project that anyone can edit. This would also effect <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mahalo.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Mahalo<\/a>, where experts create organized, comprehensive, and spam free search results for the most popular search terms. Also affected would be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.squidoo.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Squidoo<\/a>, where experts create &#8216;lenses&#8217; on subjects they know about and get revenue share too.
