In September 2012 we interviewed Nisha Singh, an official reviewer who had reviewed some of our own WordPress themes. Her answers are below, followed by a 2026 update on how theme review works now and how you can become a reviewer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quick answer:<\/strong> WordPress theme reviewers are volunteers on the WordPress.org Themes Team who check new themes against the theme review requirements, mainly licensing, security and code quality, before they appear in the directory. To become one, create a WordPress.org account, join the #themereview channel on WordPress Slack, set up a test site with Theme Check and the theme unit test data, read the requirements, and pick a point of view I think not knowing when his\/her theme will be reviewed is a bit annoying.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_are_your_views_on_footer_credit_links_which_might_generate_bad_links_from_spam_sites\"><\/span>What are your views on footer credit links which might generate bad links from spam sites?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I agree completely with the current guidelines for <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/themes\/handbook\/review\/#Credit_Links\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">footer credit link<\/a>, it ensures that spammer does not start exploiting the WordPress theme repository.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_can_WordPress_theme_designers_get_more_traffic_and_publicity_for_their_themes\"><\/span>How can WordPress theme designers get more traffic and publicity for their themes?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>They can submit one or more of their themes to the WordPress theme repo, which will get them some traffic if their theme is good and well designed. This is the easiest way to get noticed, apart from that they can get their theme reviewed by a few popular blogs like Smashing Magazine.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Do_you_also_design_WordPress_themes_What_are_your_favorite_WordPress_themes\"><\/span>Do you also design WordPress themes?
