Comparing the two lists shows how much the web has changed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google is still number one,<\/strong> and YouTube (owned by Google) is a clear second.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reddit has exploded.<\/strong> It barely registered in 2012 and is now the third most visited website in the US, helped by Google showing more Reddit threads in search results.<\/li>\n<li><strong>AI has arrived.<\/strong> ChatGPT, which launched in late 2022, already gets around a billion US visits a month.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social media has shifted.<\/strong> Facebook is still huge, but Instagram, TikTok and X now share the attention. MySpace, which was still in the 2012 top 50, has disappeared.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Old portals faded.<\/strong> AOL and Ask were big in 2012.
