AT&amp;T <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.att.net\/consumerblog\/story\/a7790136\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> that all their customers will receive the update and it will be turned on by default.<\/p>\n<h2>Wireless Emergency Alerts<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-33778\" alt=\"emergency mobile alerts\" src=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/emergency-alerts.png\" width=\"200\" height=\"101\" \/>Claiming that it is mandated by law as\u00a0part of the FCC\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/transition.fcc.gov\/pshs\/services\/cmas.html\" rel=\"noopener\">CMAS<\/a>\u00a0program, the emergency alerts are meant to inform and alert mobile users to potential emergency situations and get the text message across with a characteristic beep through a different technology, even bypassing congested mobile networks.<\/p>\n<p>There are 3 types of alerts that they can push to your iPhone.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Presidential Alerts\u00a0\u2013 \u00a0issued by the President<\/li>\n<li>Imminent Threat Alerts\u00a0\u2013 informing of \u00a0potential disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados etc<\/li>\n<li>AMBER Alerts\u2013 to help search for or locate abducted children.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Lk7nWfpBJhw\" height=\"281\" width=\"500\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When AT&amp;T pushes the settings to your iPhone, which currently requires iOS 6.1 or higher, you will get a message titled &#8220;<strong>Carrier Settings Update<\/strong>&#8220;. They note that no data or messaging charges will apply for the update or messages in future. Note that users cannot turn off Presidential emergency updates, but can disable other Wireless emergency alerts at Settings &gt;Notifications&gt;Turn On\/Off.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed this seems a great way to push messages across millions of WEA-ready smartphones instantly, providing a faster and more efficient way to get the emergency message across.
