This article covers what changed in that 2013 update, what happened to Quick Cache after it, and which WordPress cache plugin to use today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quick answer:<\/strong> Quick Cache was a free WordPress page caching plugin that added a paid Pro version in 2013. It was later renamed ZenCache and then Comet Cache, and the original Quick Cache listing on WordPress.org was closed in November 2017. It was an exceptionally fast caching plugin and made the site faster. My only grudge was that plugin updates were not being pushed, which was a security hazard. A plugin this popular needed active development, and it finally happened.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what the old, simple Quick Cache interface looked like before the update:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-39485\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/quickcache-old.png\" alt=\"Old Quick Cache WordPress plugin settings interface\" width=\"500\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/quickcache-old.png 500w, https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/quickcache-old-150x97.png 150w, https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/quickcache-old-300x194.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I upgraded Quick Cache from the WordPress dashboard to the free Quick Cache Lite version. The Pro version was a one-time payment for any number of sites, with free upgrades.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Features_removed_from_the_free_Lite_version\"><\/span>Features removed from the free Lite version<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>URI exclusion patterns<\/li>\n<li>User-Agent exclusion patterns<\/li>\n<li>HTTP referrer exclusion patterns<\/li>\n<li>MD5 version salts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t use many of these anyway. I was disappointed that the handy Clear Cache button in the admin bar was removed, which meant two extra clicks every time.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_was_better\"><\/span>What was better<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The modern interface with bright colours was truly refreshing. Many advanced options that most webmasters didn&#8217;t need (and found confusing) went away. You could also hide the green Quick Cache note at the bottom of the page source if you wished.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-39483\" src=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/quickcache-new.png\" alt=\"New Quick Cache Lite interface after the 2013 update\" width=\"500\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/quickcache-new.png 500w, https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/quickcache-new-150x80.png 150w, https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/quickcache-new-300x161.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Should you have bought Pro?<\/strong> It was a fair way to get extra features and support the plugin, but I was happy with Quick Cache Lite, which was free and had everything I needed. The Lite version also updated in one click from the WordPress plugin directory, while Pro users had to watch the developer&#8217;s website for updates.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_happened_to_Quick_Cache\"><\/span>What happened to Quick Cache<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In 2015 Quick Cache was renamed ZenCache; we covered that switch in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/2015\/03\/zencache-fix-wordpress-caching-issues\/\">QuickCache to ZenCache<\/a>. ZenCache was later replaced by Comet Cache, which WordPress.org lists as the successor to ZenCache. The old Quick Cache plugin page on WordPress.org says it was closed on 28 November 2017 and is no longer available for download.<\/p>\n<p>Comet Cache is still listed on WordPress.org, but it has not had a new version in years, so I would not choose it for a new site.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Best_Quick_Cache_alternatives_in_2026\"><\/span>Best Quick Cache alternatives in 2026<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/litespeed-cache\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LiteSpeed Cache<\/a>:<\/strong> free and actively updated. Its page cache needs a LiteSpeed web server or LiteSpeed-powered hosting, while extras like minification and lazy loading work anywhere. QuickOnlineTips uses it today.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/wp-super-cache\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WP Super Cache<\/a>:<\/strong> a free, simple page cache from Automattic that works on most hosts and is still maintained.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your host&#8217;s cache:<\/strong> many managed WordPress hosts include server-level caching, so check before adding a plugin. Never run two page cache plugins at once.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Caching is only one part of a fast site.
