Google also demotes pages with intrusive interstitials on mobile. Show pop-ups only after scrolling or on exit, and make them easy to close.

2. Autoplay video with sound

Nothing makes people hit the back button faster. Layout that jumps around

Ads and images that load late push text down just as someone taps a link. Reserve space for ads and images so the page stays stable. If ad slots stay empty, see how to hide unfilled ad spaces.

5. Too many ads

Ads between every paragraph, sticky ads on every edge and “recommended content” walls make content hard to find. Fewer, better-placed ads often earn more over time.

6. Push notification and location requests

Asking to send notifications on the first visit annoys almost everyone. Ask only after someone shows interest, if at all.

7. Cookie banners with no easy “Reject”

Hiding the reject option behind several clicks frustrates visitors and may break privacy laws. Offer clear Accept and Reject buttons.

8. Burying the answer

Long life stories before the recipe or the fix make readers scroll and leave. Tiny, low-contrast text

Grey text on white at 13px is hard to read, especially on phones. Use at least 16px and strong contrast; see how to optimize legibility.

10. Broken links and missing images

Dead links suggest the site is abandoned. Check regularly and fix broken links.

11. Fake buttons and misleading links

Ads disguised as “Download” buttons and clickbait headlines destroy trust instantly.

12. Too many emails

Sending “once in a lifetime” offers several times a day makes subscribers unsubscribe and mark you as spam.
