The laptop, jointly developed by University Grants Commission, Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, will be priced at around $10 to $20 (about Rs 500 to Rs 1,000). They say the laptop is expected to reach the market in about six months.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationweek.com\/news\/hardware\/handheld\/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=213000685&amp;subSection=News\" rel=\"noopener\">Information week<\/a> reveals that  The <strong>Sakshat model <\/strong>scheduled for display in the city of Tirupati Tuesday has 2 GB of memory, which is expandable. It has  Wi-Fi and fixed Ethernet  capability and will consume just 2 watts of power.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>high cost of laptops<\/strong> and computer has blocked the spread to computers to the large rural community and student population in India. This is India&#8217;s answer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/2008\/05\/windows-on-olpc-xo-laptop\/\">OLPC&#8217;s low cost XO laptops<\/a> priced much over $100, but sold worldwide through an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/2007\/11\/gift-xo-laptops-to-children-give-one-get-one-olpc-program\/\">aggressive marketing<\/a> campaign. This $10 laptop once available in the market will revolutionize the way the world uses laptops.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5954\" title=\"10dollar laptop\" src=\"https:\/\/www.quickonlinetips.com\/archives\/wp-content\/uploads\/10dollar-laptop.jpg\" alt=\"10dollar laptop\" width=\"129\" height=\"107\" align=\"right\" \/>Update:<\/strong> More conflicting Indian press reports are indicating that the $10 laptop <strong>might not be a laptop<\/strong> at all, and the price may be higher at $30. <a href=\"http:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/Hyderabad\/10-laptop_proves_to_be_a_damp_squib\/articleshow\/4072417.cms\" rel=\"noopener\">Times of India<\/a> reports<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The so-called laptop actually turned out to be a<strong> storage device<\/strong> containing megabytes of data info which can be accessed by a user by connecting this device to a laptop. It meant that unlike the internet, this device can display that information that has already been stored.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Hindu newspaper says<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The 10? long and 5? wide hand-held device, resembling a palmtop or a modem,<strong> helps e-learners access the Web<\/strong> easily. Priced versions of e-content available on the Net can be accessed through this device.
