Microsoft lists paid plans with higher usage limits, but the basic Microsoft Copilot free experience covers chat, voice, vision and image creation. The Copilot key can open either the full app or a smaller quick view. Click the <strong>+<\/strong> button in the message box, choose <strong>Take a Screenshot<\/strong>, mark the area you want, and then ask your question about it. Microsoft also offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-au\/microsoft-copilot\/for-individuals\/get-copilot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Copilot downloads for Windows and Mac<\/a>. The Mac app requires macOS Sonoma 14 or later.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"In_Microsoft_Edge\"><\/span>In Microsoft Edge<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Sign in to Edge with your personal Microsoft account.<\/li>\n<li>Open the web page, PDF or video you want help with.<\/li>\n<li>Select the Copilot icon in the upper-right corner of Edge.<\/li>\n<li>Type a question or pick a suggested prompt. Signing in is still worth it. According to Microsoft:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Only signed-in users get conversation history, which is kept for the last 18 months.<\/li>\n<li>Signing in with a personal account adds chat history, image creation, longer conversations and voice interactions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Your_First_Prompts\"><\/span>Your First Prompts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Copilot works best when you say clearly what you want, who it&#8217;s for, and what format you need. Try prompts like these:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>&#8220;Explain how a heat pump works in simple words, in five bullet points.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Write a polite email to my landlord asking to fix a leaking faucet this week.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Plan a 3-day trip to Chicago on a budget, with one free activity each day.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Rewrite this paragraph so it sounds friendlier:&#8221; (then paste your text).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Ask follow-up questions in the same chat to refine the answer. Then just talk to it like a person, and interrupt whenever you want.<\/li>\n<li>Click the microphone icon to mute it, and click the <strong>X<\/strong> to end the voice session.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A text transcript is saved afterward. To change Copilot&#8217;s voice, open your profile icon and look for the <strong>Voice<\/strong> settings. Microsoft says you can upload up to 20 files per conversation, with a 50MB file limit. Uploaded files are deleted automatically after no more than 18 months. Microsoft says this can take a couple of minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Ask for changes in the same chat, such as a different style or color.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can also upload your own photo and ask Copilot to edit it, for example &#8220;remove the people in the background.&#8221; Microsoft says to upload only images you own or have the rights to use. There you can turn off <strong>Training on conversation activity<\/strong> and <strong>Training on voice conversations<\/strong>.
