Yahoo Time Capsule : Electronic Anthropology Project

Yahoo! Time Capsule aims to tell the future generations what the world was like in 2006. For 30 days, from October 10 – November 8, Yahoo! users worldwide can contribute photos, writings, videos, audio and drawings to this electronic anthropology project. They claim this is the first time that digital data will be gathered and preserved for historical purposes.

From October 25-27, the contents of the Time Capsule will be projected onto the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico and they will use the face of this 246-foot tall pyramid to create a light show visible from space. All the contents of the capsule will be transmitted into space via a continuous beam of laser light from the pyramid. The entire event will be web cast live.

After November 8, The Yahoo time capsule will be sealed and entrusted to Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and its Smithsonian Global Sound based in Washington D.C. and go down in history.
