This blog gets hundreds of spam comments every day and Akismet is the wonder comment spam blocking tool that works in the background and keeps us spam free. Checking the statistics revealed that Akismet has blocked over 400,000 spam comments here since we installed it here over a year ago. (more…)

It is well known that .htaccess file largely controls the way your server responds to queries. While traveling across cities I checked my site to find 403 Forbidden errors on all pages. Upon checking my email I was surprised to receive a message from Dreamhost support notifying me that Googlebot isn’t working properly with my sites and they just blocked it via .htaccess for me and the load on the server is dropping to normal. I thank you all for the concerned emails readers sent and I explain how I fixed the issue. (more…)

Due to multiple requests for a full text feeds, Quick Online Tips is back to full feeds. Full feed advocates were surprised when this blog crossed 10000 feed readers with a partial feed, but I guess it worked for us. I have tried full feeds before for a month, but the content scrapping is difficult to control. Lets see how it works out this time. (more…)

I modified my wordpress template to incorporate a 3 column wordpress theme today. As more stuff was available to add to my wordpress blog, the long time 2 column theme was limiting the blog growth. Check out the new format as I now talk about the benefits of 3 columns and how I converted it easily. (more…)
