Microsoft Offers Genuine Windows XP Free: File Piracy Report
May 6th, 2005Microsoft is willing to replace your purchased counterfeit versions of Windows XP with complimentary genuine Windows copies, if customers are willing to file a piracy report on the vendor.

“Expanding its Windows Genuine Advantage program, Microsoft will now compensate customers in the United States that unknowingly purchased counterfeit versions of Windows XP with complimentary genuine Windows copies. There is one catch, however: customers must first file a report on the unscrupulous reseller.
In order to receive a complimentary copy of Windows XP Professional, customers must first file a confidential piracy report, hand over the fraudulent media and provide Microsoft with a proof of purchase. Microsoft has put in place a control to make certain that applicants are filing legitimate claims.
However, Microsoft acknowledges that many users will not be able send in their counterfeit CD and proof of purchase. For those customers, Microsoft is offering a $149 replacement Windows key that can be immediately activated, with a boxed copy of Windows XP Professional arriving later in the mail.”
This is part of an on going effort of Microsoft to curb software piracy. Genuine Microsoft software is software that is licensed by Microsoft, certified as authentic by Microsoft, and published and supported by Microsoft. hey i was wondering if someone could help me out. i had counterfeit windows xp intalled onto my computer. but then my brother got his own computer and bought a genuine windows xp installation. after he used it i thought i could try installing it on my own computer. went through the whole process. however now i have a huge problem. when i log onto my computer it straight away takes me to a page where i need to type in the validation key but when i do it says that the key is already been used. and it will not let me log onto my computer. i feel so stupid. anyways. is there anythhing that i can do? do i need to go out and buy a genuine windows installation with a new key? is there any way i can avoid paying that price? please let me know.
