AdSense Ads Not Showing? 12 Causes and Fixes (2026)
One day in January 2012, Google AdSense ads vanished from our site and left blank spaces. I checked my email for policy warnings (none), cleared my cache, tried other browsers and my Android phone, and checked the ad code. It turned out to be a temporary AdSense bug that affected many publishers. AdSense ads not showing is still a common problem, but today the causes are usually different. Here’s a checklist for 2026.
Quick answer: First check your AdSense account: the site must show “Ready” under Sites, with no policy issues or ad serving limits. Then make sure ads.txt is correct, a Google-certified consent message is set up for EEA, UK and Swiss visitors, the ad code or Auto ads is placed properly, and you’re not testing with an ad blocker. New ad units can take up to an hour to appear.

Account and site causes
- Site not approved: under Sites, the status must be Ready, not “Getting ready” or “Needs attention”. See why AdSense accounts get rejected.
- Ad serving limit: Google may limit ads while it assesses traffic quality. Learn about invalid click activity.
- Policy violations: check the Policy center for pages or sites with restricted or disabled ad serving.
- Payment or verification holds: unverified PIN, address or identity can pause ads.
- ads.txt problems: a missing or incorrect ads.txt file can reduce or stop ad demand. Fix any warnings in AdSense.
Technical causes
- Code errors: the AdSense script must be in the page head once; ad units must be pasted unedited. WYSIWYG editors can break code.
- New ad units: wait up to an hour after creating them.
- Auto ads settings: Auto ads may be off for that site or limited by ad load settings.
- Container too small: responsive ads need enough width; hidden or zero-width containers stay blank.
- Caching or optimisation plugins: delaying or combining JavaScript can break ads. Exclude the AdSense script.
Visitor-side causes
- Ad blockers and privacy browsers: test in a clean browser profile without extensions.
- Consent: visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland need a certified consent message; if they decline, they may see limited or no ads.
Sometimes there’s simply no matching ad (low advertiser demand), and the unit collapses or stays blank. As in 2012, check the AdSense Community forum if many publishers report the same issue at once.

i am totally agree with your article, but i think you should mention one point and that is type of ads, i don’t mean banner-text-and rich media, i am telling about types like, “adsense for content and adsense for parking domain, when ever i know this both ad types are working diffrently, and if we do mistake to get right code, we can’t earn any money if we got lots of click. i would like to know more about this matter. please post about this matter. it will be interesting.
when i write this comment none ads showing in my blogs since yesterday but i still got revenue from it.
I too have been affected. since last 2,3 days their is not ads on my site. no violation email, nothing… I am little frustrated. please suggest. what to do?
I too have been affected, but not on the same date as everyone else (i.e. 20/01/12) but today, on the 23rd January. It’s been 12 hours so far, and ads still do not appear on my homepage and on about 50% of my pages, which has resulted in a 70% drop in revenue. Hope Google fix this very soon!!!

Seriously yesterday i was shocked when i saw that there is no ads just blank space.. but then i confirmed with my friends some were able to see ads & some were not .. so thought that there is some issue.. now i’m happy after reading this post :D
Yep add me to the list of affected. I don’t consider my sites spam or in violation of Google t&c however I hope they haven’t been unfairly penalised in a panda type update to AdSense :-(
