Most Genesis theme users will be currently using the Genesis 1.8.2 version. Till the final 1.9 version is released, testers can download Genesis 1.9 beta, but be warned it is under development and they recommend NOT to use it on production sites. We are currently running Genesis 1.9.0 Beta on this site and you can be assured our blog is running fine.
Install Genesis 1.9 Beta
Genesis theme will not alert you to a new release till the final version. Testers can download the Genesis Beta Tester, a plugin which allows once click Genesis upgrades to the latest release and all beta versions under development. Simply install the plugin and a alert will come on the WordPress Admin dashboard.
You can choose to update the Genesis theme now and the plugin will download and install the theme.
Confirming the upgrade is necessary. Its useful to keep a backup copy of the original Genesis install (or now you can download it from My Studiopress which stores all your purchased WordPress themes and provides lifetime updates free)
Thats it. Now your theme is upgraded. If you are using a custom child theme, probably you would not even notice any change on your site design.
