Download Google Chrome for Mac OS X Computers

How can you download Google Chrome Mac for Apple Mac OS X computers? Google Chrome is Google’s revolutionary browser which is officially available for Windows Vista / XP-SP2 computers only. Though the official Google Chrome for Mac is still under development, there is a way out for early adopters…

Let me introduce you to some basic facts – Google Chrome is built with open source code from Chromium >> Chromium is an open-source browser project that aims to build a safer, faster, and more stable way for all Internet users to experience the web >> CrossOver Chromium is a Mac and Linux port of the open source Chromium web browser – which means CrossOver Chromium runs the Windows version of Chromium natively on both Mac and Linux. It is available for download from CodeWeavers, free of charge.

CrossOver Chromium is a technology proof-of-concept to demonstrate Wines capabilities for rapidly migrating Windows software to new marketplaces, such as Linux and Mac. Wine is a free software application that aims to allow Unix-like computer operating systems to execute programs written for Microsoft Windows. They advise NOT using CrossOver Chromium as your main browser, because this is just a proof of concept, for fun, and to showcase what Wine can do.

Remember Chromium itself doesn’t have an autoupdater like Google Chrome. As for the official Google Chrome for Mac, they run an email announcement list which will inform you when Google Chrome for Mac OS X becomes available for public download and use.

WARNING – This is not the official version of Google Chrome for Mac. This is only recommended for expert Mac testers and developers, who know what they are doing. Try this at your own risk.

UPDATE: Now you can download Google Chrome for Mac which is officially released.

Nice try to populate this web browser, to have full compatibility with all platforms of operation systems, is the great way to have first place in niche of browsers.

  2. unlimited says:

Chromium’s good but why now download the mac version directly :

  3. Neil says:

Um, that rather bland statement—”PowerPC Macs are NOT supported.”—is downright totalitarian. Why leave a large chunk of users out in the cold? Presumably Google isn’t interested in running Chrome on the iPad, either?

  4. Word Nazi says:

Well put Neil! The fact that CrossOver Chromium (which isn’t made by Google), the completely free software based on the completely free Chromium open source project, doesn’t run on some people’s Macs is exactly like a repressive government that doesn’t allow meaningful expression of dissenting opinions, and controls significant aspects of your life.

Making something and giving it away for free, but not making it work for every single person who might want it, is fascism, plain and simple. Mozilla, for example, claims to be for freedom, but refuses to port Firefox to the Atari! Who do they think they are fooling?
