WordPress Pinging Lists : Ping Update Services Smartly
April 27th, 2006 | Filed under Blogging, Tools, WordPress. It is important to blog and ping to let blog tracking and blog indexing services including your favourite rss aggregator know that you have updated your blog.
If you login to Wordpress dashboard, and then go to Options> Writing. At the bottom you see a form for Update Services - “When you publish a new post, WordPress automatically notifies the following site update services.” By default this service is prefilled with Pingomatic pinging service, which is pinged when you create or update a post.
I had earlier listed some similar one click multiple blog services pinging tools. And out of all these tools, Pingoat became my favourite. Till I was at Blogger, it pinged by default the Weblogs.com - a blog update notification service that many individuals and services use to track blog changes.
Then I came across this WordPress Compressed All-Inclusive Ping List. They compared all the ping lists available for Wordpress and decided to make a clean list from all the sources, to arrive at a list of servers to ping.
Previously when I posted an article, wordpress pinged Pingomatic by default behind the scenes, then I used to ping all services in Pingoat. What I did wrong was I pinged some services twice both from Pingomatic (by default) and Pingomatic, which might be seen as ping spam. And I still missed many other service not covered by these pinging tools.
Now after seeing the Wordpress compressed ping list, i just need to remove the pingomatic url from Wordpress Update Services and add all the pinging lists provided by them (I chose the second list that does not rely on pingomatic but rather on WordPress to handle all pings). When I post, I automatically ping all these services in one go with the customized power of Wordpress, without the need to look for other alternative pinging services. I just hope they keep this list updated.

Is this list working for you.
I I replace rpc.pingomatic.com with this list.
The write post is not working…. hanging when you press submit.

Write post takes some time in Wordpress after you press publish. It attempts to post trackbacks to all the urls in your post.

Wordpress normally pings pingomatic. This gives you more power to ping servers you like.
