How Much Does a Blog Design Cost in 2026? Theme, Freelancer and Agency Prices
In 2006 designer Chris Pearson explained that a custom blog redesign started at about $1,500 and could reach $3,000 with extra graphics and plugin support. That surprised many bloggers. Two decades later, blog design cost ranges from nothing to tens of thousands, because themes have become far more capable. Here’s what to budget in 2026. (Prices are typical ranges and vary by country and designer.)

Quick answer: A free WordPress theme costs nothing; a premium theme or page builder usually costs $50-$300 a year. Hiring a freelancer to customise a theme typically runs from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, while a fully custom design from an agency often starts in the thousands. Most new blogs do well with a quality theme plus small custom touches.

- Hire help only for the pieces that matter most, like the homepage or logo.
- Check portfolios and reviews before paying; ask for a fixed quote.

I am looking to see how much it costs to set up a blog for a Canadian Company. As well as what the monthly costs would be. Also, if you want people to be registered in order to submit a comment, rules, advertising space etc.
Don’t forget about SEOing that blog as well. We even have some clients that want maintenance and promotion which certainly can be done. I’d say $1,500 is a good price if you can get it.
