Mahalo in Alpha: Human Powered Search Engine

May 31st, 2007 | Filed under Google, Tools.

Jason Calacanis has launched Mahalo, which claims to be the world’s first human-powered search engine. Mahalo Guides are busy searching, filtering spam, and hand-crafting the best search results possible for you.

Mahalo is all about creating the best search results possible. The site is currently in Alpha and tracks the Internet’s 4,000 most popular search terms. They plan to reach 10,000 search terms by the end of the year and then go beta.

Warning symbols point the surfer to website issues like autoplaying audio, Under construction, ad-heavy, flash-heavy, pop-ups, Not Safe For Work, adult language, paid account required etc. They even warn of poor web designing like small font size and ugly sites! The Guide’s Choice symbol suggests that the Guides really like the link that the shaka follows.

It is an interesting concept and it would be nice to see it develop to the next level. They are listing the top blogs with unique content, try to recommend your blog. Still wondering what Mahalo means? its Hawaiian for Thank you!
