Buy Apple iPhone 3G in India on August 22

Apple iPhone 3G launched on July 11 worldwide, is finally selling in India from August 22, 2008. Apple has announced Airtel and Vodafone as the authorised sellers for Apple iPhone in India. Now Indians can also be proud iPhone 3G owners a few weeks later.

iPhone 3G Now in India

Bharti Airtel has announced that it will launch the iPhone 3G in India on August 22. Customers will be able to purchase iPhone 3G at Airtel Relationship Centers. However, the pricing details have not yet been officially announced (see US pricing plans). Airtel customers can book an iPhone now.

Vodafone has started pre-registration much earlier than Airtel, but there is no official announcement for iPhone sales on their site. Pre-register iPhone here on Vodafone.

The Apple India store has geared up for Apple iPhone sales and has started pointing potential customers to Airtel and Vodafone websites.

It is expected that both these telecom companies will launch the iPhone on the same day, or the earlier startup could gain a significant sales advantage. Nevertheless, the major advantage of the iPhone is 3G (which accounts for its name also), which is not available in India as yet, although it is expected soon. The pricing and service will be a major factor for the success of Apple iPhone 3G in India.

Iphone 3G may not be used to it’s full potential in India. There are plenty of other reasons like
    1. Reception Issues
    2. Battery does not even last for 8 hours
    3. Locked in to a particular carrier in India
    and many more…

  5. There is a myth in the market place on low pricing of the product (reference price point being Rs. 8000 or Rs.12000/- which refers to AT&T pricing of USD 199 or USD 299). The reports dont factor the commitment which a customers needs to give for a particular Price Plan for a period of 24 Months in the case of AT&T. For O2 the commitment is for 18 months with selected plans.

But, if we calculate other cost like montly rental for voice, i.e., 69.99 (USD), the total cost of ownership for the period of 24 months for a 8 GB model comes around Rs.81000/-! The total cost of ownership for O2 is around Rs.200000/- over a period of 18 months.

In first look it looks high, but in long term, it is still cheaper in India. So, don’t stop urself from buying this lovely gadget…
